ARTHUR'S ENGLISH SCHOOL
Curriculum
Why ARTHUR'S ENGLISH SCHOOL will use Cambridge and MEXT materials.
In the short video, witness how effective the MEXT textbooks ( Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science ) can be if utilized skillfully by English language teachers. Observe how AES founder Mr. Arthur Levula, is getting the best out of his students. This elementary school had a poor level of English when he started teaching there! The students were shy and did not have the confidence to answer questions, let alone stand in front of the class and share their answers. This video was taken by a highly impressed homeroom teacher who witnessed the tremendous improvements in the students' English and how everyone loved studying English. Notice how many students are volunteering? This is a great indication of the confidence children have gained.

How ARTHUR'S ENGLISH SCHOOL will use Cambridge and MEXT textbooks

-
Students will be introduced to the Cambridge textbooks once they are able to read, write, and speak with some fluency. This is because the Cambridge textbooks are quite challenging, requiring students to understand basic English grammar and vocabulary.
-
Students will have had ample listening practice with the Japanese Ministry of Education-approved textbooks before they move on to the Cambridge text. The listening section for the Cambridge text can be difficult without zero prior English. Children need to have a good foundation in listening before they start using the more challenging Cambridge textbooks. Building confidence is crucial, we develop student's confidence before they start on the more challenging Cambridge materials.
-
Experienced and qualified teachers will ensure that students are well-prepared for examinations. ARTHUR'S ENGLISH SCHOOL teachers will help students understand the Cambridge textbooks and use them effectively.
-
From December 2024, teachers will also provide students with practice tests and other materials to help them prepare for the IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, and EIKEN examinations.

ARTHUR'S ENGLISH SCHOOL dynamic learning, as evidenced by this blended-text lesson on "This is My Town" (Ministry of Education approved text) - Here students studied about the different buildings or places in their town. In the topic "Family and Relationships," ( Cambridge text) students learned about relationships. At the end of the topic, students made a presentation connecting the two topics.

Six-year-old students did a presentation on this. Students will do presentations at the end of topics. Here, young Kaede Takemoto with her presentation during Mr. Levula's lesson.

Students will have presentations, interviews, discussions, debates, peer teaching, and many more activities to gradually build and gain confidence speaking in front of people.
